Roberto Lopes (born on 17 June 1992 in Dublin) is an Irish footballer currently playing for Bohemians in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland.

Career

Lopes was a member of the successful Belvedere side who won the FAI Umbro under 17 Cup in 2010 by beating Carragaline United.[1]

After moving to the senior ranks, he joined Bohemians where he was a regular in their under 20s and "A" team that reached the Newstalk Cup final (A Team) and the Dr. Tony O'Neill Cup final (under 20s). Unluckily for them, they would be defeated in both.[2][3] His first team competitive debut came in the FAI Cup Semi-Final in October 2010 when he replaced Mark Rossiter at Dalymount Park.[4]

With the financial uncertainty at Bohemians during the off season, Lopes found himself a regular in the first team squad alongside some of ex Belvedere team mates such as Craig Sexton and Keith Buckley. Roberto made his league debut for the Gypsies on March 4 against Bray Wanderers in a 3-1 win for Bohs.[5] His progress at Bohs was highlighted when he captained the team in a 2-1 win over rivals Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup.[6]

International football

Roberto was part of Paul Doolin's Republic of Ireland under 19 squad that qualified for the European Championships in summer 2011.[7]
